An Invitation from Danielle Fitzhenry, Clinical Content Development Manager at PESI UK

Dear Colleague,

Time and time again, I hear it from my supervisees and fellow practitioners... I’ve certainly thought it myself! ‘What is going on with this client?’ It’s that moment where your client’s process is clearly fragmented, and therapeutic progress has stalled.

Each week they seem to be getting more and more dysregulated, stuck in their trauma cycle. That’s why I’m so happy to share this essential course that I’ve designed with one clear goal in mind: to demystify the process when working with dissociation.

This course maps out a clear and concise treatment framework that you can instantly apply with your clients. The world’s leading experts in dissociation will walk you through the stepping stones of foundational trauma and attachment theory as it relates to dissociation, and then equip you with clinical and specialist skills from today’s most effective modalities so you can feel secure, confident and competent in your ability to make progress with clients across the full spectrum of dissociation.

I hope you’ll join us as we support this phase of your professional development journey!

Warm Regards,

Danielle Fitzhenry

Course Outline

Module #1 – Introduction to Dissociation
With Janina Fisher, PhD and Kathy Steele, MN, CS

Inside this module, you’ll get a comprehensive overview of dissociation and its related concepts, including identifying symptom clusters, working with parts and the impact of trauma on the developing self. Whether you’re a beginner to working with dissociation or consider yourself a seasoned expert, this module is jam-packed with valuable insights that will help you develop a seasoned approach to working with dissociative clients.

Module #2 – Deepening Your Understanding of Dissociation
With Ruth Lanius, MD, PhD and Kathy Steele, MN, CS

Building on your knowledge from the previous module, you’ll take a deep dive into trauma-related dissociation, including the 4-dimension model, and explore concepts such as structural dissociation and the psychological defense system. Discover what the latest ground-breaking research into dissociation is revealing so you can avoid common mistakes your colleagues are making with their clients.

Module #3 – Dissociation Through the Lens of Attachment
With Pat Ogden, PhD, Kathy Steele, MN, CS and Benedetto Farina, MD, PhD

The roots that lead to dissociation are often planted in early childhood. You’ll explore the developmental neurobiology and attachment theory that underpin dissociative symptoms, and how to use tools such as Somatic Experiencing and the therapeutic relationship itself to help your clients work through conflicting attachment patterns.

Module #4 – Clinical Assessment Measures and Screening
With Kathy Steele, MN, CS, Bethany Brand PhD, Paul Frewen PhD, CPsych and Benjamin Pandev-Girard M.OT

Spotting the subtle symptoms of dissociation is an incredibly nuanced process, which is why so many therapists struggle and misdiagnose. You’ll master assessing and screening for dissociation using practice-proven clinical measures that enable you to distinguish between normal ego states and more complex dissociative parts, so you’ll feel confident and secure when identifying symptoms with your clients.

Module #5 – Creating Safety Through Stabilization
With Kathy Steele, MN, CS, Bethany Brand, PhD and Deborah Korn, PsyD

Working with dissociative clients can feel like walking on a tightrope, where a single wrong word or look can trigger your clients. This module will introduce you to a powerful phase-oriented approach and equip you with the tools and strategies you need to confidently operate within your client's window of tolerance so you can ensure that you’re always making therapeutic progress.

Module #6 – Foundational Skills and Interventions
With Janina Fisher, PhD and Kathy Steele, MN, CS

You'll get step-by-step instructions to master the core skills and techniques you’ll need to treat dissociation. From how to sequence treatment, to working online, to establishing safe and collaborative relationships... this module builds the essential foundations you’ll return to again and again with your dissociative clients.

Module #7 – Specialist Skills and Interventions
With Pat Ogden, PhD, CS, Nancy Sowell, LICSW, Jamie Marich, PhD and Frank Corrigan, MD

Now the foundations of your treatment approach are in place, this module will equip you with specialist techniques specifically tailored for dissociative clients. Featuring interventions from Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, EMDR, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), somatic techniques and more, you’ll fortify your therapist toolbox with bespoke and incredibly powerful treatment methods to treat dissociation no matter the displaying symptoms or degree of severity.
