“I don’t want to kill myself. I just need this pain to end... and I don’t see any other way out”.
Treating suicidal clients can be terrifying.
And when you’re working with extremely emotionally vulnerable patients with conditions such as Borderline Personality Disorder... you need modalities that are proven to act as effective interventions.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a variation of talking therapy that has been successfully used to help patients with self-destructive behaviours to understand their thoughts and feelings, learn ways to manage them and replace harmful practices with more helpful alternatives.
But DBT’s applications aren't confined to treating symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder... it has subsequently been used to treat a wide range of conditions including PTSD, ADHD, eating disorders, substance abuse and more.
Despite the high demand for DBT, there is currently a shortage of DBT-trained clinicians, with patients facing long waiting times for treatment via the UK government’s National Health Service.
